ALICANTE / 7-8 May 2026
Members of the Healthy Architecture & City research group have been awarded at the 11th edition of the CONTART national congress for an innovative study—framed within the VIVAlz research project—which was recognised as one of the three best scientific-technical papers of the event.
This research was conducted by group researchers María Lozano-Gómez, Pablo José Valero-Flores, and Santiago Quesada-García, under the title “Design of healthy and smart environments for people with cognitive impairment: virtual reality housing prototype”.
Technology and AI in the service of healthcare
The core of the award-winning paper lies in the transformative role of technology in daily life. The residential prototype demonstrates how Artificial Intelligence integrated into home design can serve as an active and dynamic support system, capable of delivering a genuine, tailored response to the everyday needs of people living with cognitive impairment—exponentially improving their quality of life and independence. This work previews some of the preliminary findings emerging from the VIVAlz Project, funded by the Regional Ministry of Development, Territorial Articulation, and Housing of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
