CLOSING By academic, local, and regional authorities |
After extreme situations such as those experienced during the recent pandemic, society has become aware of what living and working spaces should be like. Well-being and health are closely linked to the way the human body and mind interact with the environment and how it influences the body. Today, spaces must not only be sustainable, functional, and aesthetically beautiful; they must also be comfortable, safe, and accessible, but above all, healthy.
The World Health Organization (WHO) recognizes that the design, construction, and maintenance of buildings have a significant impact on the health of their occupants and can cause or worsen diseases. Exposure to inadequate architectural parameters and indicators that affect indoor air quality, thermal comfort, noise, lighting, atmosphere, and ionization, among others, affect people’s quality of life in the short, medium, and long term.
The objective of this course is to address the challenges and strategies of healthy architecture as a new paradigm in cities and buildings.
This summer course is a training and outreach activity aligned with two of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: ensuring healthy lives and promoting well-being for all people and planning more sustainable cities and communities.
This activity is aimed at a wide audience and is organized through lectures given by leading specialists from different areas of knowledge such as architecture, medicine, engineering, and social work, among others. The various experts will highlight the transversal and interdisciplinary nature of this topic and its significance for society. The course is structured through a series of classes and roundtables, spread over four days, addressing the following thematic areas:
- Well-being architecture
- Neuroarchitecture
- Active aging
- Accessibility and universal design
- Healthcare architecture: public and private strategies
