INTEGRATION OF AMBIENT INTELLIGENCE (AmI)
IN ARCHITECTURE

Ambient Intelligence (AmI) emphasises the ease of human interaction with an intelligent or exo-brain environment. Not long from now, people will be surrounded by intuitive and intelligent interfaces embedded into all kinds of objects in an environment devoid of obstacles and capable of continuously and invisibly recognising and responding to requests or a person’s physical presence. Technology will be characterised by ubiquity, transparency and intelligence, and it will involve planning and designing spaces that allow sustainable and ethical inclusion of these emerging technologies so that they provide confidence and security without causing social exclusion.

Such research focuses on the design and planning of environments with integrated Ambien Intelligence. A house is not a machine to live in but a home destined to be inhabited. Therefore, the house will not be a collection of technological tools whose only mission is to help with the management and support of daily tasks; people’s quality of life will increase through interaction between the inhabitant and technology as it adapts to the user’s behaviour. Current research in this field therefore deals with identifying each inhabitant’s circumstances, recognising the specific tools necessary for inhabitants to carry out their activities, breaking down this activity into several components, and coherently reassembling them in an appropriate project and design that can support a certain way of life.
