Mental Health in Emerging Adulthood: Insights and Indicators from the 024 Helpline Report
September 10th marks World Suicide Prevention Day, a vital date to place the urgency of mental healthcare at the center of public debate through scientific evidence, community responsibility, and institutional action.
Data provided by the Ministry of Health in the Monthly Report of the 024 Helpline for Suicidal Behavior reveals an important reality: approximately 30% of service users who disclose their age are under 30 years old. This figure demonstrates that young people are actively seeking help when experiencing psychological suffering, underscoring the need to consolidate safe environments and accessible interventions.
Beyond Pathologization: Understanding Distress in the Transition to Adulthood
A crucial aspect of suicide prevention is dismantling widespread myths and false beliefs. Psychological evidence shows that suicidal behavior does not always stem from a pre-existing mental disorder. In many cases, it arises as a response to high levels of hopelessness.
The Protective Role of the Environment and the Community Network
Our research highlights that perceived social support acts as an essential buffer against distress. At the TAE Project, we advocate that suicide prevention requires scientific rigor, institutional resources, and a collective commitment from society to ensure that no young person faces uncertainty alone.
