New Scientific Validation: Introducing the Spanish and Portuguese Adaptation of the ITEA-S Questionnaire

New Scientific Validation: Introducing the Spanish and Portuguese Adaptation of the ITEA-S Questionnaire

Assessing psychological processes during emerging adulthood (ages 18 to 29) requires precise measurement tools tailored to our sociocultural context. The TAE Project team is pleased to announce the validation for Spain and Portugal of the Individuation Test for Emerging Adults–Short (ITEA-S), a key instrument for understanding how young people build their independence without severing family affective ties.

Why a Specific Scale for Emerging Adulthood?

Traditional measurements of autonomy were typically based on questionnaires designed for adolescence. However, in the current context, emancipation is often delayed and family relationships evolve toward more horizontal dynamics.

The questionnaire consists of 21 items organized into five subscales: support seeking, connectedness, perceived intrusiveness, self-reliance (agency), and fear of disappointing parents. Furthermore, it has been validated in samples of young adults from Spain and Portugal, demonstrating strong psychometric properties.
