Professor Joaquín Guzmán Cuevas

Professor of Applied Economics

The PYMED was created by Joaquín Guzmán Cuevas, Professor of Applied Economics I of the University of Seville in 1994, who directed it until he passed away in August 2012.

Prof. Guzmán’s works, such as “Towards a Taxonomy of Entrepreneurial Theories” in International Small Business Journal (July 1994; vol. 12, 4: pp. 77-88), “Les Petites Entreprises Et Les Petits Entrepreneurs en Espagne: Une Approche Qualitative” in Revue Internationale P.M.E. (1995, 121-137) and “Aspectos Estructurales de las Pmes” en Economía Industrial (1994,197-204) were seminal contributions in the group’s first years of existence. From these pioneer essays, the activity of the group was developed into complementary research lines.

At the same time, Professor Guzmán established the current researcher team of the PYMED and favored a work and collaboration environment that has resulted in the success of the group during its long career.

May these short words serve as a fair recognition and affectionate memorial of his figure.
