General information

The Research Group “SMEs and economic development” of the University of Seville (PYMED) began its activity in 1994. Linked since its start to the Department of Applied Economics I of this University, the group is currently composed of 13 researchers. For more than two decades of activity, the PYMED has focused on some complementary research lines related to the impact of entrepreneurs and SMEs in economic development.

Our activity has been spread out in research projects financed or led by institutions such as the Seville City Council and the Provincial Administration of Seville, the Administration of the Regional Government of Andalusia, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, the European Commission and the OECD, among others. It has thus produced a large number of publications with a high national and international impact.

The PYMED also participates in educational and informational activities aimed at the development of entrepreneurial culture and education for entrepreneurship. Among these, we can mention the activities of the Bancaja Chair of Young Entrepreneurs and the Master of Entrepreneurship Development, both at the University of Seville.

The members of the group also develop educational activities for research in their current fields of specialization, mainly though their participation in the Doctorate Program on Economics, Business and Social Sciences of the University of Seville.

The PYMED has been in charge of the organization of many different academic and scientific events, such as the V World Economy Meeting,, the VIII Conference of the European University Network on Entrepreneurship (ESU), as well as numerous seminars and research conferences.
