74 percent of people suffering from axial spondyloarthritis (EspA-ax), a long-term inflammatory disease of the spine, have difficulty finding work because of the disease, according to the results of the International Map of Axial Spondyloarthritis (IMAS), which were presented at the Annual European Congress of Rheumatology (EULAR 2019), held in Madrid.
According to this report, almost two-thirds of the 2,846 participants experienced employment problems. Most had to take sick leave (56%) and many (45%) had problems keeping to their work schedule. Many began experiencing these destabilizing and debilitating symptoms at about age 26.
