URDIS 2016-19 – Evaluation of the Impact of Urban Sprawl on the Living Habits, Urban Mobility and Health of the Adult Population in Spanish Metropolitan Areas
Duration of the project:
January 2016 – December 2019
Description:
The aim of this study is to evaluate the health status of the population (overweight, obesity, type II diabetes, cardiovascular and mental diseases), taking into account their mobility patterns and their living habits (dependence on private vehicles, physical activity linked to non-motorized travel and sedentary lifestyle), depending on whether they live in dispersed urban areas or in compact urban areas.
To this end, a characterization of urban mobility patterns in dispersed and compact urban areas will be made, a characterization of the population’s living habits in dispersed and compact urban areas, an evaluation of the possible correlations between mobility patterns, living habits and the population’s state of health in dispersed and compact urban areas, as well as establishing recommendations for the improvement of sustainable urban mobility planning and urban design in territories with a predominance of dispersed urban networks.
