The role of medium-sized inland cities in regional development. The case of Andalusia

Abtract
Medium-sized cities have advantages over large cities and should therefore play an essential role in territorial balance. However, in recent times, Public Administrations have allocated more investment to large metropolises, causing a demographic, economic, infrastructure and equipment concentration in them, with the consequent loss of the leading role that medium-sized cities had decades ago. This article establishes typologies of Andalusian medium-sized cities according to their location in order to evaluate their evolution in recent times.
