Labour Atlas of People with Disabilities in Spain. 2016
The Atlas Laboral de las Personas con Discapacidad en España presents an X-ray on the degree of labour insertion, working conditions and barriers to access to employment for people with disabilities.
This book contains information from a wide range of statistical and documentary sources together with a case study of companies, allowing for a diagnosis of the current situation and the evolution of the labour insertion of people with disabilities on a national level, in the autonomous communities and in the European context.
This project, which arises from the collaboration between the Special Employment Center SIFU Group and the University of Seville, shows how people with disabilities, compared to the general population, register higher unemployment, are relegated to lower category jobs, receive less income to the same job and branch of activity and are forced to work in protected employment. In recent years, the situation has worsened, widening the gap between the unemployment of the population with and without disabilities, and confirming that the economic crisis has affected this group to a greater extent.
To reverse this situation, it is necessary to evaluate employment policies regarding people with disabilities, orienting their training to the demands and needs of the labor market, establishing measures for the fulfillment of the reserve quota in the ordinary company, increasing the financing of the Special Employment Centers, as well as informing employers about the benefits of hiring people with disabilities.
