Webinar 8: Your new maternal brain: Science, hormones and transformation

Last June 11th, we held our 8th Webinar titled “Your new maternal brain: Science, hormones and transformation.” The session was led by Araceli García, biologist, researcher, science communicator, and university lecturer specialized in motherhood, breastfeeding, and perinatal mental health.

The webinar began with a theoretical overview of the neurobiological changes that take place during pregnancy and the postpartum period, introducing key concepts such as the maternal brain and matrescence. Evidence-based insights were shared on hormonal changes, brain plasticity, stress, oxytocin, bonding, microbiota, epigenetics, and neurobiological adaptation to childbirth, helping participants better understand the scientific foundations of motherhood.

Following this, the session explored the implications of these processes from a more applied perspective, connecting scientific knowledge with real-life experiences and professional practice. The webinar was designed for mothers, families, healthcare professionals, and anyone interested in perinatal psychology, breastfeeding, parenting, and the science behind motherhood. Participants had the opportunity to address their questions during the Q&A session.
