The University of Seville has honored the Wellness Neuroscience Group in the 3rd Edition of the Healthy Culture Awards (III Reconocimientos en Cultura Saludable) for its outstanding contribution to promoting inclusion, solidarity, and healthy habits, through the BIMSTRESS Project, a pioneering initiative applying neuroscience to mental health and wellbeing.

Recognizing innovation in brain health and wellbeing

The BIMSTRESS Project (Biofeedback and Mindfulness for Stress Reduction) seeks to evaluate, prevent, and reduce chronic stress in academic and work environments using neurotechnological tools and evidence-based self-regulation strategies.

This institutional award emphasizes the most impactful initiatives from the university community that promote health, inclusion, and social responsibility. BIMSTRESS was especially commended for its interdisciplinary approach, combining scientific research, technological innovation, and social impact to foster wellbeing within the university.

A further step toward a healthier university

Under the leadership of Professor Francisco Manuel Ocaña Campos, the Wellness Neuroscience Group developed BIMSTRESS in collaboration with researchers from various fields, integrating biofeedback, mindfulness, and interoceptive training as scientifically grounded methods for stress regulation.

The project aligns perfectly with the University of Seville’s strategic goal of becoming a healthier and more mindful university, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the promotion of mental health across the academic community.

Commitment to applied neuroscience for wellbeing

Receiving this award strengthens our group’s mission to advance applied neuroscience for wellbeing, bridging research, education, and knowledge transfer.

Drawing on the success of BIMSTRESS, the group will continue expanding its research lines, including the development of neurofeedback, biofeedback, and digital interventions to improve mental health and resilience in university settings and high-stress professional contexts.
