ABSTRACT:

The Council of Trent, in response to the Protestant Reformation, unified the rites and established the Tridentine Mass throughout the Latin Church, which attached greater importance to preaching. For the Jesuits the interest in acoustics is evident in the discussion about the most appropriate way to cover their mother church, Il Gesú of Rome. In Andalusia, the Company built during the 16th century a sample of churches that responded to the model of spatial and typological organization of Il Gesú, introducing other models with a central plan in the 17th century. The objective of this communication is to carry out a study of the spatial characteristics, materiality, positions of sound sources and audience zones of these churches as a preliminary step of analysis of their sound behaviour.
