ABSTRACT:

This paper presents a method to synthesize the acoustic assessment of large reverberant places of worship for two types of sound stimuli: music and speech. The proposed synthetic indices are derived from the spectrally and spatially averaged values of various acoustic parameters, related to the attributes of perceived sensation and widely considered in other acoustic studies. Partial indices associated with each parameter are determined by comparing its average value with its range of optimum values and its environment of acceptable values that are set according to their respective differential thresholds (JND). The methodology implemented is applied to the acoustic assessment of five cathedrals of Andalusia.
