Originally, churches lacked HVAC systems; their interior environment conditions was determined by the external climatology. Now, with the new comfort requirements and the available technologies, some of these spaces need to be refurbished to achieve those requirements by installing some conditioning systems. But not usually performed a previous study that considers thermal comfort and preservation of Cultural Heritage.
By other hand, as the cultural assets of these ecclesial heritages are located in worship spaces governed by institutions that, in general, haven’t got a museum structure, their conservation taking account the new environmental techniques is questionable.
This research will advance our Knowledge of the environment conditions in the places of worship, also it presents a set of data obtained and conclusions, that subsequently be applied to the restoration or rehabilitation projects of churches. The main goal of this work was understand the hygrothermal behaviour of the church, and compared it with comfort requirements and preventive conservation.
