The Applied Functional Ecology Research group (PAIDI Groups, RNM-035) is attached to the Department of Plant Biology and Ecology of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Seville, specifically to the Area of Ecology.
It is a multidisciplinary group, specialized in the study of the ecophysiological response of plants against different types of environmental stress and in assessing the role of microorganisms in that response.
The group carries out applied studies, of scientific-technical relevance and socio-economic impact, in the agricultural field, of environmental remediation and conservation. Our researchers are very involved in the transfer of the research results.
The latest projects of the research group try to value the role of plant growth promoting bacteria in the improvement of traditional and alternative crops (multifunctional halophytes such as Salicornia ramosissima, used in gourmet cooking)
The group specializes in analyzing the ecophysiological response of plants against different types of abiotic stress (salinity, drought, high temperatures, etc.). Our aim is knowing the optimal conditions for the growth of the species under study, as well as their tolerance for different types of environmental stress.
The researchers of the research group have numerous publications that show the potential of various plants, in combination or not with microorganisms, for cleaning contaminated soils, whether by organic pollutants, heavy metals or salt.
