Introduction

The unfocused: Losing the proper focus of an image or a subject.

The 1st International Conference on Digital Arts promoted by the University of Seville, the Department of History of Art, the Faculty of Geography and History and the research group Vanguards, Latest Trends and Artistic Heritage (HUM-1030), is a multidisciplinary scientific meeting that proposes the cross-cutting theme of “the unfocused” as its backbone. We understand this defocusing as a debate in which the different emancipations of our current society must be protagonists under the expansive umbrella of the Sustainable Development Goals, approved by the United Nations through its 2030 Agenda.

The aim of this conference is to establish a field of critical discussion, from which to evaluate and define digital art and cultural developments from the creative, educational, heritage, museum or commercial spheres; their historical trajectory, impact, possibilities and future. The current state of art and culture requires a better understanding of the digital sphere as a medium, tool or result.

Beyond its own conceptual limits, the congress must acquire a profile that is aware of the society that surrounds it and for this reason it has been proposed to converge with some of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the 2030 Agenda, approved on September 25 of 2015 by the General Assembly of the United Nations (UN), to address the great global challenges and the goals that will guarantee a better future for all. Among them, both in the structure of the lines that will give nature to the congress and in the structuring of contents and, above all, in the guidelines that will dictate the selection processes of communications, the SDGs in favour of the promotion of gender equality, inclusive education, sustainable development, the fight against inequality, the search for sustainability, the denunciation of climate change and the promotion of global ethical alliances will be mainly taken into account.

The University of Seville has also launched different actions to raise awareness of the 2030 Agenda. An analysis process has been designed with the double objective of:

  • Identify actors and lines of work linked to Sustainable Human Development (SHD) existing in the University of Seville today.
  • Carry out a detection of training needs to improve the knowledge and contribution to the 2030 Agenda of your university community.

Through the Development Cooperation Office, the University of Seville implements outreach activities and commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.

We think that in the contemporary global sphere, the networks of critics and artists are powerful elements that energize practices around cyberfeminism, cyberecology, or human rights, being subjects that create immediate reactions and responses in society, both global and local. This I International Congress wants to focus on these artistic networks and how they manifest themselves.
