The Research Group on Location was created in 1991, with
the financial support of the Andalusian Research Plan.
At this time, the focus was on Location Analysis.
Although locating is inherent to human beings, and
without forgetting some precedents in mathematics that
date back to XVII and XVIII centuries and in economics
during the first half of the XX century, the so-called
Location Theory becomes a scientific area during the
1960's.

Location analysis has important links with other areas
such as optimisation and mathematical programming,
computational geometry, algorithms and transportation
science, among others. All this makes location analysis
a multidisciplinar subject. Therefore, nowadays, our
group has several open research lines, e.g. transport
planning and geometric optimisation.
