The latest data published by the Consejo de la Juventud en Espa\u00f1a (CJE, 2026)<\/strong> report on how current economic and housing conditions are impacting young people and their transition into full adulthood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The most critical overarching finding since historical records began indicates that merely 14.5% of the youth population in Spain manages to achieve residential independence<\/strong>. According to the CJE report (2026), renting a home individually consumes 98.7% of a young person’s average salary<\/strong>; consequently, shared housing has ceased to be a lifestyle choice<\/strong> or a transitory university experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, 29.3% of young individuals live in a state of economic vulnerability<\/strong>. Most concerning is the fact that even when holding employment and earning a wage, 19.9% of working youth remain at risk of poverty<\/strong> (CJE, 2026).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This socio-economic climate directly impacts the average age of emancipation in Spain, which currently stands at 30.2 years<\/strong>. However, an analysis of the data through a gender lens reveals a highly significant asymmetry: young women emancipate earlier and in greater proportions, yet they exhibit lower rates of single-occupancy living (CJE, 2026) (Table 1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
