MoMovivso

The project “The Heritage Consideration of Social Housing in the Modern Movement. The Virgen del Carmen Housing Estate: Revitalization and Energy Updating” (MOMOvivso) proposes applied research focused on the heritage value of Modern Movement social housing.

Its main objective is to advance the conservation of this architecture by developing a methodological model that begins with documentation and proposes strategic guidelines and intervention criteria for Modern Movement social housing, aimed at preserving its material and intangible heritage values, with a focus on the Virgen del Carmen housing estate.

This topic is of particular interest because it concerns a living, inhabited heritage. In the selected case study, there is still a presence of residents who have lived in and used the housing since its origin.

The project seeks to develop a study with both scientific and social participation to address the conservation of 20th-century social housing as a legacy of contemporary society. The 20th century marked the period of greatest construction of collective social housing in Spain, representing a heritage asset of great importance today.

The recovery of these assets contributes to the construction of the contemporary city, as heritage actions aim not only to ensure the preservation of the values of residential complexes, but also to improve the quality of life of the communities that inhabit them, thereby strengthening social cohesion.
