Latina MothersUP Images and Narratives Gallery Exhibition

The presentation of the gallery “Migration, Maternity and Memory”, an exhibition of images and narratives constructed by the Latin American participants of the MadresUP project, was held on 18 June at the Arrupe Centre, as part of the closing of the activities of the ECCA-Social Foundation’s line of action with migrant women.

This gallery is the result of a photovoice process, in which a group of Latina mothers reflected, dialogued and selected significant photographs that capture their challenges and strengths as migrant women and mothers. Each image is accompanied by a collective narrative that gives name and meaning to the shared experiences, becoming a living testimony of their trajectories.

The event, attended by around 30 women, marked the closing of the first stage of the project, which culminated in the formation of a group of mentor mothers. Four of them were in charge of presenting the gallery, generating a deeply emotional and reflective space. Their voices put into words the daily challenges faced by migrant mothers, and underlined the importance of recognising the external factors that impact on their wellbeing and that of their families.

We sincerely thank all the participating mothers for their involvement, creativity and generosity in sharing their stories. We also extend our appreciation to the MadresUP team, who accompanied this process with closeness and commitment, as well as to ECCA-Social for the space to exhibit this gallery.
