Elena Guichot-Bordons’s TFG explores how support networks transform lives

Elena Guichot-Bordons, a student of the Degree in Psychology at the University of Seville, defended her Final Degree Project (TFG) on 17 June with a grade of 10. Her TFG, supervised by Virginia Paloma, supports the methodological approach of MadresUP by analysing the use of Social Network Analysis (SNA) in the study of psychosocial well-being in migrant and refugee populations.

Their paper entitled “Analysing the relationship between social support networks and psychosocial well-being in migrant and refugee populations through Social Network Analysis: a systematic review”, compiles and examines 14 studies published between 2015 and 2024. From this review, it highlights that the quality of social ties – such as trust, cultural affinity and frequency of contact – plays a key role as a protective factor, beyond the size of the network.

This methodological approach will be applied in MadresUP to evaluate the impact of its community intervention on the social support networks of the participating mothers. Elena’s dissertation thus provides a solid theoretical underpinning for this line of work.

From MadresUP we congratulate Elena for her excellent advocacy and for her valuable contribution to the project.
