Overview
Who We Are & What We Do
The IDEA Research Group is a dynamic team led by María Teresa Gómez-López and composed of researchers from the University of Seville. Together, they work on Improving Decision-Making About Business Processes. Today, real-world problems are increasingly complex, and the techniques to address them are becoming more sophisticated. One common approach to managing systems for companies and large organizations is through the use of business process models and engines. However, current models and tools fail to fully meet the day-to-day needs of companies.
Our research fields focus on improving mechanisms for modeling business processes, analyzing approaches such as imperative, declarative, or artifact-centric models. We aim to enhance the ability to detect and diagnose incorrect behaviors, support decision-making processes to optimize key process indicators or process outcomes, and predict potential incorrect behaviors in the future.
Since business processes exhibit various characteristics that can be studied, our focus is on data and security aspects.
We have developed several projects funded by both public and private sources. Many of the ideas in our work originate from continuous collaboration with companies through various projects, where our research is transferred to the industrial sector.
Our most recent work focuses on the following areas:
- Diagnosis of Business Processes:
- Analyzing processes from a data perspective and examining their security characteristics.
- Improving Decision-Making:
- Enhancing decisions related to input data and integrating performance data into the decision-making process.
- Support for the Business Process Life Cycle:
- Assisting in the modeling of business processes by incorporating policy rules into the lifecycle.
- Enriching Imperative and Declarative Models:
- Extending the capacity of Process models to describe data and Security behaviour within business processes.
