Excellence, cooperation and social commitment: International recognition for Healthy Architecture & City in Camag\u00fcey<\/h3>\n

Research gains its deepest meaning when it crosses borders and places itself at the service of people and society. We share with immense satisfaction a very special milestone for the Healthy Architecture & City (HAC)<\/strong> <\/a>research group from the University of Seville: the University of Camag\u00fcey “Ignacio Agramonte Loynaz”<\/strong><\/a> (Cuba) has awarded the Award for Excellence in Internationalisation to our International Cooperation Project<\/strong><\/a>, developed under the leadership and coordination of researchers Santiago Quesada<\/strong><\/a> and Mar\u00eda Lozano<\/strong><\/a> in Spain, and Marisabel Almeida Torrens in Cuba.<\/p>\n

This accolade, set within the Strategic Internationalisation Plan of the University of Camag\u00fcey, recognises international cooperation initiatives distinguished by their scientific quality, social relevance, transformative knowledge transfer, and direct link to local development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n

A sensitive perspective on the architecture and health binomial<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

Under the title “Cognitive Ageing and Health in the World Heritage Site of Camag\u00fcey (Cuba):<\/strong><\/a><\/span> Diagnosis,<\/span><\/strong> Characterisation and Mapping of Buildings with Potential for Care Facilities for a Vulnerable Population in the Historic Centre<\/strong>” (AYP\/10\/25),<\/span> the project addressed an urgent contemporary challenge:<\/span> the combined effects of demographic ageing and urban gentrification processes in a historic enclave of exceptional heritage value, such as the area declared a World Heritage Site in Camag\u00fcey.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Bringing together architecture, neuropsychology, urban planning and community health, the team worked side by side in Camag\u00fcey’s historic centre to design concrete solutions and care facilities tailored to vulnerable older people and patients with cognitive impairment or Alzheimer’s disease.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Partnerships transforming the territory<\/strong><\/h4>\n

 <\/p>\n

The true driving force behind this success has been collaborative networking. Jointly led by the University of Seville<\/strong> and the University of Camag\u00fcey<\/strong>, the initiative benefited from the strategic support of the International University of Andalusia (UNIA)<\/strong>, the Office of the City Historian of Camag\u00fcey<\/strong>, and the University of Medical Sciences of Camag\u00fce<\/strong>y.<\/p>\n

Throughout its phases\u2014structured around a postgraduate course, a summer school, a diploma programme, and a final international symposium\u2014the project not only fostered an enriching academic and mobility exchange across both sides of the Atlantic, but also delivered direct, tangible knowledge transfer, culminating in the publication of the book presenting the results, entitled: *Diagn\u00f3stico, caracterizaci\u00f3n y cartograf\u00eda de edificios para personas con deterioro cognitivo en la zona patrimonio mundial de Camag\u00fcey, Cuba<\/strong><\/a>* (*Diagnosis, Characterisation and Mapping of Buildings for People with Cognitive Impairment in the World Heritage Site of Camag\u00fcey, Cuba*).<\/p>\n

Receiving the Award for Excellence in Internationalisation is not merely an academic honour; it is a testament to how university cooperation grounded in rigour, empathy, and social responsibility can help build more inclusive, healthy, and equitable cities.<\/p>\n

Our warmest congratulations go to every lecturer, researcher, professional, and student across Cuba and Spain who made this bridge of knowledge possible.<\/p>\n
