The researcher and professor Mar\u00eda Lozano G\u00f3mez<\/strong> <\/a>has participated in the COMPASS Conference: Transferable Skills for Research & Innovation, an event that took place in Helsinki during the first week of October 2023 and is organised by the Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, which is a member of the European Ulysseus alliance<\/strong><\/a>. The researcher, selected by the event’s Scientific Committee, represents the Healthy Architecture & City<\/strong><\/a> research group from the University of Seville with the presentation:<\/p>\n

Long-Life Wellness from an Architectural Perspective: Design of Ambient Assisted Living for the Ageing Population and Persons with Cognitive Disabilities<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Within the seven innovation hub topics addressed at this international conference, Mar\u00eda Lozano’s contribution falls under the theme of Ageing and Well-being. On the European agenda, education and R&D in healthcare and well-being are a key priority, just like for the Healthy Architecture & City<\/strong> <\/a>group. The economic crisis and demographic changes have particularly compromised public health, composing a key challenge for our societies. That is why the main topics addressed by the Ulysseus university alliance are: “Ageing in the city,” “Silver economy,” “Environmental impacts on ageing and well-being,” and “Understanding the ageing process.”<\/p>\n

The COMPASS Conferenc<\/strong>e aims to bring together European researchers to share work that aligns with the themes of the Ulysseus European University Innovation Centre, which are as follows: Sustainable energy, transportation, and mobility for smart cities; Ageing and well-being; Tourism, art, and heritage; Sustainable entrepreneurship and impact; Digitalisation, robotics, and cybersecurity transforming the future; AI applied to business and education and Socio-ecological sustainability.<\/p>\n

La profesora Mar\u00eda Lozano G\u00f3mez<\/strong><\/a>, en representaci\u00f3n del grupo de investigaci\u00f3n Healthy Architecture & City<\/strong><\/a> de la Universidad de Sevilla, ha participado en el Summer Institute: Exploring the X- Factor of a City<\/strong> en Ko\u0161ice, Eslovaquia. Este evento est\u00e1 organizado por la Technical University of Ko\u0161ice (TUKE), con el apoyo de la alianza universitaria europea Ulysseus<\/strong><\/a> y de la Regional Science Association International.<\/p>\n

El objetivo principal de esta actividad internacional es explorar el denominado \u201cX-factor\u201d de una ciudad, entendido como el conjunto de caracter\u00edsticas \u00fanicas que contribuyen a su atractivo, competitividad, sostenibilidad y calidad de vida. A trav\u00e9s de un enfoque interdisciplinar, el Summer Institute busc\u00f3 analizar c\u00f3mo la combinaci\u00f3n de factores econ\u00f3micos, sociales, tecnol\u00f3gicos, ambientales y culturales pueden impulsar el rendimiento urbano y el bienestar de sus habitantes.<\/p>\n

El contenido acad\u00e9mico del programa se estructur\u00f3 en torno a cinco grandes enfoques tem\u00e1ticos: la ciudad inteligente (Smart City), la ciudad sostenible (Sustainable City), la ciudad pr\u00f3spera (Prosperous City), la ciudad feliz (Happy City) y la ciudad vivible (Living City). Estos ejes actuaron como marcos para reflexionar sobre los retos y oportunidades de las ciudades actuales, as\u00ed como para evaluar estrategias innovadoras de planificaci\u00f3n urbana.<\/p>\n

Investigadores y estudiantes de doctorado de diferentes universidades de la alianza europea Ulysseus<\/a><\/strong> participaron en las actividades del programa que combin\u00f3 conferencias magistrales impartidas por expertos internacionales en urbanismo y arquitectura, con talleres pr\u00e1cticos, sesiones de trabajo colaborativo y debates acad\u00e9micos. Adem\u00e1s, el trabajo de campo y las visitas guiadas por la ciudad de Ko\u0161ice permiti\u00f3 a los participantes vincular la teor\u00eda con la observaci\u00f3n directa del entorno urbano.<\/p>\n

En conjunto, el Summer Institute 2024 ofreci\u00f3 un espacio intensivo de aprendizaje, intercambio acad\u00e9mico y colaboraci\u00f3n internacional, proporcionando a los participantes herramientas conceptuales y metodol\u00f3gicas clave para el estudio de las ciudades y su desarrollo sostenible y saludable desde una perspectiva multidisciplinar.<\/p>\n

El grupo Healthy Architecture & City<\/strong> <\/a>de la Universidad de Sevilla participa en el \u201cBIP: Advancements and Applications of Wearable Technology<\/strong>\u201d con la asistencia de la investigadora Mar\u00eda Lozano G\u00f3mez<\/strong><\/a>. Esta actividad acad\u00e9mica est\u00e1 integrada en la oferta de la alianza europea Ulysseus<\/strong> <\/a>y est\u00e1 organizada por la Universidad de G\u00e9nova (Italia), dise\u00f1ada como un Blended Intensive Programme (BIP)<\/strong> que combina formaci\u00f3n virtual y presencial en el \u00e1mbito de las \u201ctecnolog\u00edas ponibles\u201d (wearable technology).<\/p>\n

El objetivo de este programa es ofrecer a investigadores y estudiantes de doctorado una experiencia formativa que combine teor\u00eda y pr\u00e1ctica mediante un enfoque basado en proyectos (project-based learning). La estructura del BIP se dividi\u00f3 en dos fases: una semana de movilidad virtual en la que se prepara el trabajo de campo, se investigan antecedentes te\u00f3ricos y se dise\u00f1an prototipos. Y a continuaci\u00f3n, una semana de movilidad presencial en G\u00e9nova, que tuvo lugar del 17 al 21 de febrero de 2025, centrada en el desarrollo colaborativo de soluciones pr\u00e1cticas.<\/p>\n

Durante estas semanas se combinan clases magistrales, talleres, sesiones de trabajo en equipo y pruebas de prototipos, fomentando la colaboraci\u00f3n interdisciplinaria entre participantes de diferentes \u00e1reas como ingenier\u00eda, arquitectura, inform\u00e1tica, dise\u00f1o y salud. El BIP ha permitido trabajar con dispositivos ponibles (wearables), realidad extendida, sistemas inteligentes y rob\u00f3ticos, y conjuntos de datos reales para dise\u00f1ar, implementar y evaluar aplicaciones interactivas de estas tecnolog\u00edas, aplicadas a sectores diversos como la salud, las artes y la interacci\u00f3n humano-robot (Human-Robot Interaction).<\/p>\n

El contenido del curso abarca temas fundamentales y avanzados, como la integraci\u00f3n de sensores y dispositivos wearables para la captura de datos en tiempo real, el procesamiento y an\u00e1lisis de esos datos, y el dise\u00f1o de aplicaciones funcionales que puedan aportar valor en \u00e1mbitos como la salud, la cultura y las interacciones entre humanos y robots.<\/p>\n

En conjunto, este BIP ha combinado teor\u00eda, pr\u00e1ctica e innovaci\u00f3n en un encuentro de participantes internacionales de las distintas instituciones colaboradoras de Ulysseus, permitiendo la transferencia de experiencias internacionales en la aplicaci\u00f3n de tecnolog\u00edas ponibles, evaluaci\u00f3n de usabilidad y pruebas de usuario para aplicar sistemas rob\u00f3ticos e inteligentes en contextos reales y multidisciplinares.<\/p>\n
