Abstract: Breathers do not need to have an energy larger that the activation energy to influence reconstructive transformations. A breather modulates the potential barrier in Kramers theory which introduces an amplification factor in the reaction rate. Different types of breathers that appear in simulations for the cation layer in muscovite have different amplification factors, which increase several order of magnitude the reaction rate. This is coherent with the observed low temperature reconstructive transformations.
