Alfonso Mate (Ph.D., Pharmacy) is a Full-time Associate Professor
at the University of Seville (Dept. Physiology). He has been teaching Human
Physiology-related subjects since 1999, including both undergraduate (Bachelor’s
Degree in Pharmacy; Bachelor’s Degree in Optics) and graduate (MS in Physiology
and Neuroscience; MS in Biomedical Research; MS in Pharmaceutical Science &
Rational Use of Medicines) students.
Excellence in Teaching Award (University of Seville, 2007), he was
also visiting professor at the University of Catania within the framework of Erasmus
Teaching Mobility Program. His research interest topics include cardiovascular,
renal, and ocular physiology, pathophysiology or hypertension-related organ damage,
dietary supplementation with bioactive compounds in cardiovascular disease, and
pregnancy-related hypertension, among others.
He has co-authored more than 40 research papers with an average impact
factor (ISI-JCR) of 4.62 in the last 5 years (h index = 19). A visiting researcher at
different universities (University of Barcelona, University Hospital Zurich
(Switzerland), Queen’s University Belfast (UK), Pontifical Catholic University of Chile),
he has also been a Fulbright Visiting Scholar at the University of Mississippi Medical
Center (USA).
He has presented over 100 scientific communications in national and
international meetings. Prof. Mate held Membership of the Executive Committee of the
Spanish Physiological Society during the period 2014-2018. He has also been Executive
Vice Dean for Academic Affairs (School of Pharmacy) since December 2017.
