This important event marked the conclusion of years of collaborative research between <strong data-start=\"726\" data-end=\"782\">Spanish and Portuguese universities and institutions<\/strong> under the <strong data-start=\"793\" data-end=\"812\">INTERREG-POCTEP<\/strong> program.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"823\" data-end=\"865\">\ud83d\udcda A Project Focused on School Safety<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"867\" data-end=\"1316\">The PERSISTAH project has focused on <strong data-start=\"904\" data-end=\"956\">assessing and reducing the seismic vulnerability<\/strong> of school buildings located in the <strong data-start=\"992\" data-end=\"1033\">Huelva (Spain) and Algarve (Portugal)<\/strong> regions\u2014areas at moderate to high seismic risk. Through a combination of field surveys, structural analysis, and retrofitting proposals, the team worked to establish a <strong data-start=\"1202\" data-end=\"1230\">methodological framework<\/strong> to prioritize and implement <strong data-start=\"1259\" data-end=\"1304\">cost-effective, low-impact reinforcements<\/strong> in schools.<\/p>\n<h4 data-start=\"1318\" data-end=\"1353\">\ud83c\udf93 International Collaboration<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1355\" data-end=\"1637\">The seminar brought together <strong data-start=\"1384\" data-end=\"1434\">researchers, engineers, and public authorities<\/strong> from both sides of the border. Key figures from the <strong data-start=\"1487\" data-end=\"1512\">University of Seville<\/strong>, <strong data-start=\"1514\" data-end=\"1543\">University of the Algarve<\/strong>, and regional governments presented results and shared insights on challenges and next steps.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1639\" data-end=\"1665\">Among the highlights were:<\/p>\n<ul data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1934\">\n<li data-start=\"1666\" data-end=\"1732\">\n<p data-start=\"1668\" data-end=\"1732\">Presentation of <strong data-start=\"1684\" data-end=\"1707\">index-based methods<\/strong> for seismic assessment<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1733\" data-end=\"1773\">\n<p data-start=\"1735\" data-end=\"1773\">Examples of successful pilot studies<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1830\">\n<p data-start=\"1776\" data-end=\"1830\">Proposals for <strong data-start=\"1790\" data-end=\"1828\">replicable retrofitting strategies<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li data-start=\"1831\" data-end=\"1934\">\n<p data-start=\"1833\" data-end=\"1934\">Discussions on integrating the results into <strong data-start=\"1877\" data-end=\"1934\">public policy and educational infrastructure planning<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4 data-start=\"1936\" data-end=\"1961\">\ud83e\udde9 Legacy and Impact<\/h4>\n<p data-start=\"1963\" data-end=\"2302\">PERSISTAH not only delivered a robust research methodology but also contributed to <strong data-start=\"2046\" data-end=\"2067\">raising awareness<\/strong> among authorities about the <strong data-start=\"2096\" data-end=\"2126\">need for preventive action<\/strong> in schools and public buildings.
