{"id":2041,"date":"2023-06-08T13:53:43","date_gmt":"2023-06-08T13:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/grupo.us.es\/estygeotec\/?p=2041"},"modified":"2025-05-28T13:53:11","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T13:53:11","slug":"2023-teleprensa-un-estudio-sobre-la-resistencia-de-la-mezquita-ante-terremotos-dice-que-solo-sufriria-danos-menores","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/grupo.us.es\/estygeotec\/2023-teleprensa-un-estudio-sobre-la-resistencia-de-la-mezquita-ante-terremotos-dice-que-solo-sufriria-danos-menores\/","title":{"rendered":"2023 &#8211; Teleprensa &#8211; A study on the earthquake resistance of the Mosque says it would only suffer &#8216;minor damage&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p data-start=\"72\" data-end=\"485\">A study on the <strong data-start=\"87\" data-end=\"147\">earthquake resistance of the Mosque-Cathedral of C\u00f3rdoba<\/strong>, conducted for the <strong data-start=\"167\" data-end=\"199\">Cathedral Chapter of C\u00f3rdoba<\/strong> by the <strong data-start=\"207\" data-end=\"273\">Department of Building Structures and Geotechnical Engineering<\/strong> at the <strong data-start=\"281\" data-end=\"331\">Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSA)<\/strong> of the <strong data-start=\"339\" data-end=\"369\">University of Seville (US)<\/strong>, has concluded that the monument <strong data-start=\"403\" data-end=\"439\">\u201cwould only suffer minor damage\u201d<\/strong> in one part of the <strong data-start=\"459\" data-end=\"484\">Patio de los Naranjos<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"487\" data-end=\"863\">This was explained by two members of the ETSA research team who authored the study, <strong data-start=\"571\" data-end=\"617\">Mar\u00eda Victoria Requena and Antonio Morales<\/strong>, during a presentation held this Wednesday in C\u00f3rdoba. The event, in the form of a lecture titled <em data-start=\"716\" data-end=\"789\">&#8220;The Mosque-Cathedral in the Face of an Earthquake: A Theoretical Case&#8221;<\/em>, detailed how the monument would respond to a hypothetical seismic event.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"865\" data-end=\"1089\">Requena and Morales emphasized that the study is <strong data-start=\"914\" data-end=\"928\">pioneering<\/strong>, &#8220;because it uses cutting-edge technology to create <strong data-start=\"981\" data-end=\"1016\">finite element numerical models<\/strong>, which allow for the analysis of various proposed earthquake scenarios.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1091\" data-end=\"1332\">The <strong data-start=\"1095\" data-end=\"1147\">key to the Mosque-Cathedral&#8217;s seismic resistance<\/strong>, according to Professor Antonio Morales, &#8220;lies in the monument\u2019s own structure, arranged in <strong data-start=\"1240\" data-end=\"1280\">naves formed by arcades over columns<\/strong>, which gives it flexibility to withstand movement.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1334\" data-end=\"1606\">Moreover, the simulations demonstrated that in <strong data-start=\"1381\" data-end=\"1410\">the most common scenarios<\/strong>, the Mosque-Cathedral <strong data-start=\"1433\" data-end=\"1516\">would only suffer minor damage to the north fa\u00e7ade of the Patio de los Naranjos<\/strong>, while <strong data-start=\"1524\" data-end=\"1605\">the rest of the structure would withstand the earthquake without major issues<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1608\" data-end=\"2099\">At the same event, the <strong data-start=\"1631\" data-end=\"1697\">Dean-President of the Cathedral Chapter, Joaqu\u00edn Alberto Nieva<\/strong>, explained that this study \u201cis part of the various <strong data-start=\"1749\" data-end=\"1788\">protection and prevention protocols<\/strong> established by the chapter institution,\u201d and that these protocols are \u201cconstantly being revised and improved.\u201d These include <strong data-start=\"1914\" data-end=\"2001\">the self-protection plan, the asset safeguarding plan, and the fire prevention plan<\/strong>\u2014measures that are not well known to the public but are <strong data-start=\"2057\" data-end=\"2098\">very useful for managing the monument<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2365\"><strong data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2120\">Gabriel Rebollo<\/strong>, the monument\u2019s conservation architect, added that \u201cthis study covers an area that <strong data-start=\"2204\" data-end=\"2257\">had not previously been approached scientifically<\/strong>, which makes this research <strong data-start=\"2285\" data-end=\"2319\">extremely useful and important<\/strong> for the conservation work being carried out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"2101\" data-end=\"2365\">Access to the complete article <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teleprensa.com\/articulo\/cordoba\/estudio-resistencia-mezquita-terremotos-dice-que-solo-sufriria-danos-menores\/202306081353061492310.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A study on the earthquake resistance of the Mosque-Cathedral of C\u00f3rdoba, conducted for the Cathedral Chapter of C\u00f3rdoba by the Department of Building Structures and Geotechnical Engineering at the Higher Technical School of Architecture (ETSA) of the University of Seville (US), has concluded that the monument \u201cwould only suffer minor damage\u201d in one part of [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":1891,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_acf_changed":false,"footnotes":""},"categories":[82,77],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-2041","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-2023-media-appearances","category-media-appearances"],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v28.7 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/product\/yoast-seo-wordpress\/ -->\n<title>2023 - Teleprensa - A study on the earthquake resistance of the Mosque says it would only suffer &#039;minor damage&#039;
