The conclusion: in most cases, <strong data-start=\"685\" data-end=\"754\">the building would be able to withstand them with moderate damage<\/strong>.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"trinityContainerScript\" class=\"c-detail__body u-pt-0 u-bt-none-i\">\n<p data-start=\"757\" data-end=\"999\">The study, titled <strong data-start=\"775\" data-end=\"822\">&#8220;Project for Earthquake-Resilient Heritage&#8221;<\/strong>, focuses on both the Mosque-Cathedral and the Giralda of Seville. It is funded by the <strong data-start=\"909\" data-end=\"927\">European Union<\/strong> and was presented at the <strong data-start=\"953\" data-end=\"983\">Real C\u00edrculo de la Amistad<\/strong> by its authors.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1001\" data-end=\"1390\">Joaqu\u00edn Alberto Nieva, Dean-President of the Cathedral Chapter, explained that this report is part of several <strong data-start=\"1111\" data-end=\"1150\">protection protocols for the temple<\/strong>, such as the <strong data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1239\">self-protection plan, asset safeguarding plan, and fire prevention plan<\/strong>, which\u2014although little known to the public\u2014are operational and continually updated with the latest technologies alongside authorities and top experts.<\/p>\n<div class=\"c-detail__media__thumb\"><picture data-size=\"w:940,h:414\" data-full-src=\"https:\/\/imagenes.eldebate.com\/uploads\/2023\/06\/07\/6480d623dcc8a.jpeg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/imagenes.eldebate.com\/files\/new_main_image\/uploads\/2023\/06\/07\/6480d623dcc8a.jpeg\" alt=\"Presentaci\u00f3n del estudio sobre el impacto de terremotos en la Mezquita Catedral\" width=\"940\" height=\"414\" data-index=\"\" data-full=\"[object Object]\" data-original=\"[object Object]\" data-full-src=\"https:\/\/imagenes.eldebate.com\/uploads\/2023\/06\/07\/6480d623dcc8a.jpeg\" \/><\/picture><\/div>\n<p class=\"c-detail__media__subtitle\"><span id=\"m50649-50648-50650\" class=\"c-detail__media__credit \">Presentation of the Study on the Impact of Earthquakes on the Mosque-Cathedral \u2014 La Voz<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h3 data-start=\"1397\" data-end=\"1440\"><strong data-start=\"1401\" data-end=\"1440\">Scientific and Practical Importance<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"1442\" data-end=\"1725\">Gabriel Rebollo, one of the conservation architects, highlighted the <strong data-start=\"1511\" data-end=\"1554\">scientific novelty and great usefulness<\/strong> of this study, which covers a topic that had not previously been addressed scientifically despite the monument\u2019s 1,200+ years of history and exposure to many earthquakes.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1727\" data-end=\"1871\">The study is <strong data-start=\"1740\" data-end=\"1754\">pioneering<\/strong> and expected to be <strong data-start=\"1774\" data-end=\"1828\">very useful for many monuments in Spain and abroad<\/strong> due to its use of cutting-edge technology.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1873\" data-end=\"2207\">Mar\u00eda Victoria Requena, from the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Industrial Design at the University of C\u00e1diz, explained the core of the work: the creation of <strong data-start=\"2041\" data-end=\"2076\">finite element numerical models<\/strong>. These 3D models replicate the Mosque-Cathedral, built by Abderram\u00e1n I, and simulate its responses to different seismic scenarios.<\/p>\n<h3 data-start=\"2214\" data-end=\"2253\"><strong data-start=\"2218\" data-end=\"2253\">The Importance of the Structure<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p data-start=\"2255\" data-end=\"2441\">Professor Antonio Morales, from ETSA Seville, noted that Spain has one of the largest earthquake databases in the world.
