Now that the current year is close to an end, it is time to reflect on some of the most memorable accomplishments from our team from the past months. 2024 has been a magnificent year for Diverso Lab.
One highlight was the publication of our paper, “Variability Management and Software Product Line Knowledge in Software Companies“ in the Journal of Systems and Software. Led by David Benavides Cuevas and Antonio Manuel Gutiérrez Fernández, the study surveyed over 100 companies, uncovering a significant demand for better variability management.
Another key milestone has been our ongoing involvement in AquaIA, an innovative deficit irrigation programming system for organic crops, developed in collaboration with FIWOO, FERAGUA, Bioalverde, and Universidad de Loyola, under the coordination of Universidad de Sevilla. Diverso Lab, alongside US’s agronomic group, forms a multidisciplinary team whose joint expertise in IT and agronomics drives this impactful project.
We also celebrated the success of UVLHub, an open-source SPL online repository created by Prof. David Romero Organvídez, Dr. José Ángel Galindo, and also developed by Víctor Ramírez de la Corte. This project recently featured in the Journal of Systems and Software and has become an integral teaching tool for Software Engineering students at the University of Seville, as well as a critical resource for Diverso Lab’s projects.
The achievements of Dr. Benavides added further prestige to our lab this year. He was appointed Computer Engineering PhD Degree Coordinator at the University of Seville and secured the publication of his first open-access book about Feature Models with Springer. Stanford University also recognized Dr. Benavides as one of the top scientists globally, a testament to his ongoing contributions to research and innovation.
Lastly, our colleague Prof. Jesús Moreno co-led an initiative to provide AI training for workers from migrant and vulnerable backgrounds in Seville. The non-profit organization Programamos has been selected by the Center For Public Impact for receiving funding from Google.org’s AI Opportunity Fund: Europe. This project empowers individuals from sectors such as agriculture, tourism, and hospitality, enhancing their career opportunities and fostering socioeconomic inclusion.
These achievements underscore the remarkable dedication and impact of Diverso Lab in 2024, setting the stage for even greater achievements in 2025.
From Diverso Lab, we want to wish everyone a happy holidays season and a happy new year!
