(p\u00e1gs. 65-70)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Beyond the obvious relevance of the proposal itself in an increasingly polarized political context worldwide, which I will address in a minute, I feel the need to emphasize beforehand your contribution&#8217;s timely importance in relation to media studies as a field. Promoting a critical view of current media landscapes implies articulating academic discourses that emphasize the link between the media and political systems, exposing democratic deficits within the global public sphere. However, highly complex, descriptive methods seem to be the norm today, as digital resources allow new, more detailed ways of understanding how people consume their media. In contrast, your approach foregrounds a truly critical view that sketches how we should act in order to preserve the essential political role played by local journalism in democratic societies. This means adopting an engaged academic perspective on the interplay between media and democratic politics, one seemingly on the decline nowadays in spite of a long academic tradition (Greenwood, 2007; Hale, 2006; Malo, 2004).
