Symposium. Health Assets for Young People's Wellbeing

The symposium 'Health Assets in a Global Context: Theory Methods Action. A series of events to translate the asset model into policy research and practice. Symposium 1: Health Assets for Young People's Wellbeing', was held in Seville from 28th to 30th April 2010. The event was organized by the University of Seville (Spain) and the University of Hertfordshire (England), in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Health Behaviour in School-Aged Children study (HBSC), and supported by the Department of Health in England and the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality in Spain, Spanish Presidency of the European Union. It brought together internationally recognized experts, politicians, professionals, researchers and community members who work on issues related to salutogenesis, resilience and social capital; as well as, adolescents from around the world who provided the closest view of their reality.
The overall objective of the symposium was to contribute to the advancement of asset-based approaches to the welfare of young people and to present the ideas and themes of the book 'Health Assets in a Global Context: Theory Methods Action' by Morgan, Davies and Ziglio. It proposes an asset model that serves to address, among others, global inequalities in health. All this, highlighting the actions required from policy makers, researchers and professionals to make it happen and benefit health and development in different contexts.
