The Study on the Health Behaviour in School-aged Children (HBSC) is a project sponsored by the World Health Organization (WHO) taking place in more than 40 western countries.

Every four years, within the frame of this project, data collection is carried out in relation to the health of school aged children with the objective of obtaining a global vision of the lifestyles of teenagers, and of using available tools in the debate concerning the promotion of health in the fore mentioned population. In this study, following WHO guidelines, health is understood as complete physical, mental and social wellbeing and not only the absence of illness. For this reason, the questionnaire collects data with regards to different fields: family relationships, peer relations, schooling, psychological adjustment, diet, consumption of substances and sedentary activities.

Since its 2001/ 2002 edition, the study has had the joined support of the Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality (Public Health) and the University of Seville (Department of Developmental and Educational Psychology).
